Poncho Villa

Sorry I am so late sharing all the details on this look. It was a busy day!

I have fun story to share with you. My husband bought me a 23andMe kit to learn more about my ancestry. This is the coolest and easiest process. You receive a kit that is complete with a tube, lid, bag, and towel to assist with moisture during shipping. You basically spit (I know gross – sorry) into the tube. They have a designated line for you to reach in order for your results to be accurate. Once you reach the level you use a special lid that adds more liquid to your sample and lock the tube. This along with a towel are inserted into a plastic bag and sealed. You then register your sample and decide if you want a basic DNA analysis or that along with information pertaining to your health. They range from $99-$169 if I am not mistaken.

I did the higher price one to get a more comprehensive list of results. Let me tell you, they were amazing to see and learn about. I realized how much more my DNA is blended and what century my ancestors may have originated in. I even received information based on family members and the likelihood of their relationship to me. How amazing is that?

Anyway, I say all this to tell you a story. When discussing this process with my family my great-aunt mentioned our history with Pancho Villa. He was a General and a prominent figure in the Mexican Revolution. It was said that during his reign he was friends with my great-great grandmother. She used to hide his arms for him when in town. Kind of crazy. I am not 100% sure of the accuracy, but what an interesting tidbit and a great conversation starter. ha!

Another random correlation to him too. My brother’s family went to Marfa earlier this year and ate at a fun bar/restaurant. My brother is a musician and liked the vibe of one of the patrons of the establishment. He asked to take a picture with them and was told that she was a descendant of Pancho Villa. Not sure if this is fate working its magic or a coincidence. All the same it adds to the story!

You are probably wondering why I am telling you all of this and I promise I have a point. When I sat down to write this post all I could think about was my poncho. Then my thought process started thinking of Pancho Villa. Silly, but fun and hopefully I got your attention!

My look:

Today I was a nice breezy day. I have several ponchos, scarfs, and pashminas and wanted to share all of these pieces and ways to integrate them into an outfit. You will never believe where I found my actual poncho. For our property I bought ten different styles to keep my friends warm on nights when we are sitting outside or by the fire. These were an accidental find on a grocery run to Walmart. The pattern and texture are beautiful. They are affordable and prove that style is not about money. I could not wait to share this steal of a deal with you.

I layered over a beautiful black turtleneck sweater and leggings. To break up the black I put on my super comfy Dolce Vita booties. The brown and black look gorgeous together and add a richness to the whole look. I hope you love it as much as I do.

My bag is a truly remarkable piece. It is from the Hudson line of Remember Me Green. This was the first line they introduced and it is primarily made of recycled billboards from NYC. So cool! It is a one of a kind bag and is earth friendly. You can’t beat that. They specialize in totes and zipper pouches, but offer many other products too. They recently started personalizing bags as well. You should check them out!

The whole look is affordable and fun. A great style for Fall! Happy shopping!

I am so excited for Fall to arrive. I stopped by Whole Foods today and was greeted by the pumpkin bin. Yea! I am so ready to kick off decorating season.

What is your favorite holiday to decorate for at home? I love to decorate always. I will say that Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are hits in our family. Maybe because we have three months of continuos celebrations of the season and it feels festive for an extended amount of time.

My kids love to help me take the boxes out of storage and place decor around the house. I know pumpkin carving will be a hit too. Until then, I may just bring a few pumpkins home to place on the porch for a pop of color.

My look today is perfect for a casual boho feel. The fringe poncho is very comfortable and the soft and neutral colors make it work for most outfits. I layered with a delicate pink lace camisole. My go to jeans this season are the frayed and hi low hem jeans. I am loving mules this season too. They add great comfort and are wearable year round.

Finish off with a hobo bag, sleek sunglasses, and some dainty jewelry and you are set. I am off to check my inventory and make my home festive. Happy Fall Ya’ll!
