Hang all the Mistletoe

Hang all the Mistletoe

Oh, I love Christmas time and I have to tell you I may be one of those people that does not have a problem with Christmas music before Thanksgiving! Guilty as charged!

Music is a wonderful expression and gives so much joy and I truly love and appreciate it even more during the holidays. Growing up with a musician you understand the intricacies of the business and the detail and emotions that go into writing a song. My brother is truly a gifted singer and songwriter. I am going to see if he will sing a quick holiday song for me to share…

Don’t have a full song, but here is a quick and silly snippet of his beautiful voice! Totally put him on the spot. If you want to check out more of his soulful voice click here.

My favorite song of the season has to be the rich voice of Bing Crosby singing “White Christmas”. I mean seriously…have you heard anything more beautiful. The first time I remember hearing the song was actually in 6th grade choir. During the holidays we watched White Christmas as a class and I have loved that movie and watch it every year multiple times.

The kids have grown to love music and have a blast “caroling” during the season. I say that loosely as they are still learning some of the lyrics and have incorporated some other silly ones too! Oh, what fun!!!

My top 10 favorite Christmas songs are:

  1. White Christmas, Bing Crosby
  2. All I Want for Christmas, Mariah Carey
  3. Drummer Boy, Whitney Houston
  4. O Come All Ye Faithful, Martina McBride
  5. Silent Night, Josh Groban
  6. God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Barenaked Ladies
  7. The Christmas Song, Nat King Cole
  8. Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra
  9. Hallelujah, Pentatonix
  10. O Holy Night, Celine Dion
  11. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Michael Buble

I mean you can’t go wrong with holiday music in my book. On the radio we have a few stations that play holiday music. Dallas stations 98.7, 101.1, 102.1. Otherwise, I listen to Pandora or turn the Spectrum on to channel 941! Siruis channel 70 the Holly Station is great too!

Halloween

Halloween

I told you Target was on to something. Their buyers are doing a fantastic job bringing in fresh and fun inventory. I could have played in the Halloween department all day.

My family was really impressed with the selection of products to choose from. We started off in the costume section because why not?! The first thing that had the kids going were the food costumes. How cute are these? Pizza, hot dug, doughnut, cookie, and more. A quick and easy way to celebrate for the season with minimal effort. These costumes run from $20-$30. Money well spent for a whole lot of fun!

Shop food costumes here.

They also had a ton of mascot style costumes that are easy, secretive, and something different. While you can buy a full mascot costume on their online shop, their store offers four oversized versions of the head alone. They are all $30 and can be layered over your normal clothes. They are all cheeky and clever. Cat, Fox, Unicorn, and Panda. Win, win, win, and win!

Shop the oversized mascot heads here.

They have a ton of selections from infant to adult. To shop all their costumes click here.

An aisle over the magic happened. There were so many fantastic items I did not know where to begin my search. A few items that immediately jumped out were:

The Day of the Dead Collection by Hyde and Eek Boutique.

The figurines are vibrant and whimsical. These would be perfect on a mantle or incorporated into a centerpiece on the table.

The Stories of the Dark Collection is comprised of several designers and all is done well. Here you will find the traditional representations of Halloween (cats, witches, skulls, Jack o’lanterns, bats, spiders, and more).

I especially like a light up Boo sign that is in this collection. Very fun and would fab on a bar cart!

The Nocturne Collection has a lot of the darker selections for the season. Skulls, eyeballs, potion glasses, dark hued pumpkins, and more. This will speak to your inner scream queen.

I especially love the film projector and old telephone. Adds a little Hitchcock to your design.

The Skeleton & Tombstone Collection is super fun! I don’t recall seeing so many options. They have the standard human bones, alligator skull, wolf, bat, dogs, and more. There are great for a yard scene.

My favorite may be the cat eyes that light up. If I had double doors in the front you can bet those would be on display.

There is also a ghoul that is super creepy, but a great visual for those of you that like the haunted house style decor. Maybe when the kids are older. 🙂

Now, if you are looking for a simple tee or some clothes for your littles, Target has all of that in store. There are more options for the younger ones. Shop their clothes here.

I am fan of Target. I love what they are doing to their stores. The layout is superb. The selection is on trend. And, the convenience is amazing.

Hope you find as many goodies for Halloween at your closest Target store!

Boo Ya’ll!

Christmas in October

+
Well, I officially saw my first Christmas setup of the season. I love Christmas and it did put me in a festive mood, but I can tell you right now I am still embracing fall and the holidays that are coming up in the next few months. As soon as I got home I went to the vault (the garage storage) to get down the rest of my Halloween and fall décor. That’s right! We are festive in our casa in a simple and playful way!

Here is a glimpse of our home for the holidays.

What are some of your favorite pieces for the holidays? Do you have an extra spooky decorations?

Happy decorating and almost Halloween!

Boo!

Nothing beats autumn days (or the beginning of them) and time with the kids. This weekend I took the kids to the pumpkin patch in Dallas’ Farmers Market. We love Ruibal’s. They have beautiful products and their pumpkins are always amazing.

I knew the day would be full of running around so I kept it casual. This was the perfect opportunity to wear my new concert tee-shirt from the Janet Jackson Tour. While I wish I went, it was a gift from my mom. She and her girls went to the show and said it was fantastic. Maybe I will catch Janet in another city!

Some skinny jeans with a wide roll at the ankle added some flare along with my MIA sneakers. I love these shoes. They are so comfortable and the ruffle embellish on top turns a clunker into a nice feminine shoe.

The morning started off cool so I layered with my jean jacket. Fall is fast approaching so getting those staples to layer with in the closet is key. My trusty aviators and some fun earrings completed the look.

A little denim, black, white, silver, and gray for this mama and her casual ways and fall days!
