As many of you know we own a home and land in East Texas. We bought it 4 years ago and it is one of the best purchases we have made as a family.

Let me tell you how it all started. We’ve always discussed buying property. Well, after many visits to my best friend’s parents place in Buda, Texas (they live on 6 acres) my husband got the bug for real!

Our friend Travis at Twigg Realty helped us on this adventure. He said East Texas is where you want to go for the trees and beauty! He did not steer us wrong. Although our initial path did take us down some bumpy roads (haha).

We ultimately settled on a place in between Canton, Grand Saline, Tyler, and Athens. The land is plenty and the backdrop is gorgeous.

We named her Chuggyville (pronounced “shug” – e – ville) although “chug” works too! You ask how did this name come about….well, when Chris and I dated we called each other Chuggies. It was our pet name and to be honest I am not even sure how that all started. I just remember Chris shouting in a high pitch voice “chuggies”!

Our main reason for purchasing was to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We love Dallas and are city folks at heart, but the wide open spaces offer an escape like none other. The kids can play outside for hours, they can ride their bikes in a safe area, they can roam and interact like we did as children before technology took over.

As adults we can unwind and relax. It really does take things back to a more simplistic way of life and I am not complaining one bit.

We have 10 acres which is modest compared to our neighbors, but is just right for our family. We host many a gatherings here and use it as a work retreat too. It really has exceeded our expectations and we are so grateful for this opportunity to own such a place.

If you every wanted to find a retreat even it is just land and no structure I highly recommend heading out East. Travis is a great resource for purchasing this way too. An acre now can range from 4K-10k depending on the location.
I will say that we are so grateful to have it especially during these unprecedented times. We have “sheltered in place” out here and have no plans of returning home any time soon. School is officially not returning to back to campus so we have no reason to be back home. We are praying for everyone’s health and sanity and hoping our world returns to “normal” as soon as we safely can.

Until then my friends!
Xo,
Vanessa
